AAPA reiterates that avian flu is an animal related disease with no evidence of human-to-human transmission. The Secretariat has been closely tracking the developments of the avian flu and threat of a flu pandemic on behalf of the Crisis Management Coordination Group (CMCG). A database of members’ medical experts was created to enable quick access, and close contacts with industry stakeholders such as IATA, PATA and the airports to ensure cooperation when the need arises.
AAPA has joined the Tourism Emergency Response Network (TERN), a collaboration between travel and tourism organisations preparing for emergencies such as potential avian influenza pandemic. Other members include the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), International Federation of Tour Operators (IFTO), Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA)
