Distribution

Distribution for airlines refers broadly to the various channels to sell the airlines’ products and services to the customers. In recent years, distribution has become one of the biggest cost items for airlines, next to possibly only fuel and labour.

Driven by rising costs, competitive pressures, and advancing technology, AAPA member airlines are exploring alternatives to expand their distribution offerings, and at the same, increase cost effectiveness for distribution.

AAPA offers members a forum to debate distribution related issues such as CRS deregulation in the US, the proposal to revise the EU CRS Code of Conduct; and explore means of reducing distribution costs such as Electronic Ticketing, E-commerce, GDS efficiency issues, and new / alternative distribution channels. AAPA participated actively in consultations with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and European Commission on legislative proposals, developed best practices on reservations, and conducted joint trainings, all part of AAPA's initiatives to help member airlines in their aim to achieve a more cost effective distribution strategy.
